Montachusett Regional YMCA
October 17, 1887- Fitchburg Young Men's Christian Association incorporated. First organizational meeting held in October, 1886. Rooms rented in Twitchell Block, corner of Main and Oliver Streets. Program consisted on entertainments and lectures.
1889-1890- Outdoor sports were played, primarily tennis and baseball.
January, 1955- New building on Wallace Avenue opened.
1955- Swimming year round became possible
1965- 2 Racquetball courts and Men's Health Center opened
1967- Women's saunas, exercise room and locker room added
1972- Buzzer system installed for quicker entry to physical facilities.
1973- YMCA Nursery School opens
1974- Aerobic dancing introduced
1976- YMCA gets parking lot
1978- Merger- Fitchburg and Leominster unite and become the Montachusett Regional YMCA
1978- YMCA Day Care Center Established
1979- YMCA Kindergarten Established
1979- YMCA Qualifies and receives recognition as International YMCA
1980- 25th Anniversary of Wallace Avenue facility
